After meeting at the Trusted Travel office in Wollongong, we boarded our bus and headed south, picking up more of our friends along the way. It was a long day on the road so when we arrived in Narooma we kicked our shoes off for a barbie with snags, prawns and all the trimmings. We stayed up late under the beautiful night sky, getting to know each other over great stories and plenty of laughter.
We woke up on Wednesday for the main event of our all boys fishing trip; a chartered fishing boat to the waters around Montague Island. Our guides, Ben and Georgia from Montague Island Adventures and Fish Charters, were absolutely unreal and knew all the best spots. We pulled in plenty of bream, snapper, morwong and a few flathead. But the biggest fish of the day came when one of our Trusted Travellers pulled in a 65cm kingfish. As an added bonus, we also saw hundreds of Australian fur seals basking on the rocks and had a pod of friendly dolphins riding our wake on the way out.
Of course, it was fish on the menu that night and our Trusted Travel staff put on a spread of kingfish burgers, seasoned snapper and pan fried flathead tails for dinner. Yum! The fish tasted oh so much better knowing it was the spoils of our own adventures.
The next day we were up early with a spring in our step but as the morning wore on, the wind picked up. Unfortunately, this meant our tour of Montague Island couldn't go ahead. In true Trusted Travel fashion, we made the best of the situation and headed out for a wonderful afternoon of South Coast tourism. We visited the beautiful village of Central Tilba where we saw cheese and yoghurt being made in the old cheese factory and popped in to see the spectacular shores of Mystery Bay before returning to Narooma for a hearty club meal.
We left Narooma on the Friday with a bus load of new friends, all hopeful that we'd be back again soon and that the fish would be biting again next time around!
