Trusted Travel acknowledges the Mulwaree People and Gundungurra People as the continuing custodians of the land we will be visiting.

Goulburn is a hidden gem just waiting to be explored. A couple of hours drive south west of Sydney, it was declared Australia’s first inland city in 1863. Goulburn is a proud historic town thriving with museums, festivals, restaurants and galleries. Trusted Travel are touring around the area for a few days to take in the historical highlights and enjoy a steam festival like you have never seen before!

It's a chance to travel through time as it never was when the Goulburn Historic Waterworks host its annual Steampunk Victoriana Fair. The steampunk movement celebrates all things steam engine with a futuristic twist and costumes aplenty! The Goulburn Waterworks will be in full steam this weekend and we will get to enjoy seeing the action, as well as enjoying the market stalls and great food on offer.

While in the region we will also take a look at the Rail Heritage Centre, home to the largest working roundhouse and their massive collection of trains. A fantastic way to start our steam weekend!

Day 1

Our staff will be ready to welcome you at the departure point, farewell your families and friends and start the adventure. We will load up the bus and get on the road! We will stop somewhere to stretch our legs and have some lunch. Then we will explore the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre. This heritage listed former railway workshop is now a renowned working museum. We can explore the any years of rail history on offer with a guided tour and get to see the roundhouse in action. After our visit, we will make our way to our accommodation to settle into our rooms and a chance for some feet up time. We will meet up to have dinner together and discuss our plans for the next few days.

Day 2

We will have breakfast together and make our way to the Waterworks. Built between 1883 and 1885, the steam operated pumping facility provided Goulburn’s first reticulated water supply. The pumphouse still contains the original Appleby Bros. Beam Engine pump and Galloway Boilers. This rare facility is the only complete, steam powered municipal water supply left in its original location, in the Southern Hemisphere. Each year, the Waterworks host the Steampunk Victoriana Fair. Steampunk shows how the future might have been imagined in the industrial age. We will revel in the unique facility and its history, and envisage the old-world technology put to use in the future at the Steampunk and Victoriana Fair. We will spend the day at the fair, enjoying the fashions, food and most importantly the steam engines. The Waterworks steam up all their engines on this weekend and we have two days to visit them all. We will head back to our accommodation for a rest and then some dinner together, and then if we are up to it, will head back out to enjoy some of the festival nightlife.

Day 3

We will take some time to drive out of Goulburn this morning to visit the Rocky Hill Memorial. Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum was awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award in September 2020 – placing it in the top 10% of attractions worldwide. This memorial was built around 100 years ago to commemorate World War 1 and the many people whose lives were lost or impacted by the war. Since then it has had many additions and improvements and is now an architectural landmark as well as a lovely place to see far and wide into the beautiful region of these highlands. We will head back to the Waterworks and the festival and catch up on what we missed yesterday, and see more of what we loved. After we have had our fill of steam and festival, we will head back to our accommodation to have some chill out time before we go out for our last dinner together.

Day 4

This morning we will have a fun filled breakfast together and then pack up the bus and start our road trip back home. A trip to Goulburn is not complete unless you have your photo taken with the big Merino. Australia loves making big statues of their favourite things and this one is not to be missed. The Big Merino is a 15.2 metres tall concrete merino ram, located in Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia. Nicknamed "Rambo" by locals, the Big Merino is a monument to Goulburn and the surrounding district’s fine wool industry. You can also climb the stairs into the head of Rambo and look out at the views one last time! After some lunch and a browse through the gift shop, we say our goodbyes and head back home to family and friends.

All participants can treasure their holiday memories forever with the purchase of a hard cover keepsake photo book. Order here!
