After breakfast together, we will spend the morning day tripping around Hobart on the Red Decker Bus with a guided tour of all the sights and history of Hobart. It’s a great way to spend the morning. Once we have hopped off that bus, we will hop in to our bus and begin the drive to Port Arthur. We will stop off for lunch in one of the many towns along the way. We will pass through the famous Eaglehawk Reserve which was used to catch escaped convicts. We will continue onto Port Arthur and spend the afternoon at the famous historic site, looking around and hearing some of Australia’s convict history.
We will head to our accommodation, have some dinner and spend the evening together planning. Port Arthur Historic site has so much to do and see they give you a two-day pass and we will be heading back there tomorrow.
We will have breakfast together and head back to Port Arthur. This world heritage listed site is the best-preserved convict site in Australia and among the most significant convict sites worldwide. There are many old buildings to explore, a cruise that takes you around the bay and stories about life back in the convict days and early settlement of Australia. There is plenty to see and do and we have all day to enjoy and learn. After a massive day, we will head back to our accommodation and enjoy a chilled dinner together and an early night – we are on the road tomorrow!
Today we will be up early to have breakfast and pack up our belongings and hit the road up the east coast of Tasmania. This east coast road trip is one of the best road trips in Australia, with the road so close to the coast and with a number of towns that are ready to share their wares and goods, we will be treated with many goodies and gorgeous views along the way. We are heading towards Freycinet National Park, with secluded bays and white sandy beaches, and granite peaks with amazing bushland surrounding it all, we will be spoilt for views and vistas. We will be spending the night in one of the great little towns in the area, which will allow us time to explore and enjoy the wonderful scenery and splash our feet in the Tasman Sea.
On the road again!!! After a hearty breakfast we will jump back in the van and get on the road to Launceston. This drive takes us through the middle of Tasmania. The scenery along the way changes from coastal to more bushland and mountainous scapes, we can choose our route through the protected national parks of this beautiful part of Tasmania.
With so many towns along the way to stop and stretch our legs and meet some locals, this road trip is sure to be a special one. We aim to be in Launceston mid-afternoon and check into our accommodation and have some down time.
When we have had some time to refresh after our journey, we can head out and check out the local restaurants and choose one for dinner. We’ll have a chilled and early night as we have Festivale tomorrow!!
Today is Festivale Day!!! Launceston Festivale is Tasmania’s premiere summer celebration of all things food, beverage and entertainment in the iconic City Park. We will make our way after breakfast and familiarise ourselves with all there is to do. There is so much to choose from – cooking events, music, and plenty of market stalls with gourmet produce and local products. Vanessa Amorosi is the music headliner for today – we don’t want to miss her on stage!!
We can spend the day grazing and boogying.
We will make our way home to our accommodation and rest up with dinner together.
We have another day at the Festivale today. We will have a leisurely breakfast and catch up on all the fun things we have seen over the last few days. When we are ready to go, we can pack up and hit the Festivale. The Whitlams are the main headliner for today, a great aussie band to finish up a wonderful few days of Festivale and week travelling in Tassie!
In the afternoon, we will make a visit to Launceston Gorge. A must see while in town. Here you'll find walking and hiking trails, the world's longest single span chairlift, swimming pool, restaurant, kiosk, cafe peacocks and wildlife, beautiful gardens, suspension bridge, inclinator for easy access, and panoramic lookouts with spectacular views.
The evening will find us packing for home. We will have our final dinner together reminiscing our favourite parts of the trip and making plans for our next visit.
Today we will make our way to the airport after a chilled-out morning breakfast. I am sure the flight home will be filled with chatter about the great times had this week and will spill over to share with our family and friends when we meet up with them. We can say goodbye to the new friends made this week and take the memories with us forever.
