Our explorers traveled to the top end of Queensland to enjoy all of the wonders Cairns has to offer.  We explored the parks and waterfalls of the stunning Karunda rainforrest via cableway and scenic rail.  This journey took us past some amazing views and we enjoyed a guided tour of Barren Falls at mid station as well as a guided tour of Red Peak.

The next day we jumped aboard the state-of-the-art “Reef Rocket” catamaran and powered out to Green Island. What a place! Well known for its abundance of marine life and world famous coral reefs. We had a fabulous time at Green Island and saw so many fish and the beautiful reef through the bottom of a glass bottom boat.

Another highlight of the trip was a visit to Hartley’s Croc Farm, which was a great way to see crocodiles up close and learn all about them. The trip included a cruise on Hartley’s Lagoon out to Melaleuca Wetland to see some other wildlife. Many of the crocodiles were sleeping on the banks, but they sure could move quickly when they wanted to!

Cairns is well known for its indigenous culture so we couldn’t miss this opportunity to spend some time at the Tjapukai Cultural Centre. Here we saw indigenous performers display traditional dance, art and other interactive demonstrations. We enjoyed the bush food and medicine presentations, hunting and weapons demonstrations, the Didgeridoo show, the boomerang throwing, and spear throwing were fantastic.

Cairns is truly a stunning part of our beautiful country and we packed as much as possible into our North Queensland adventure.
