28 October - 31 October 2019 | SOLD OUT
A beautiful town with a rich shipbuilding heritage, Huskisson is on the shores of the spectacular Jervis Bay Marine Park in the Shoalhaven region. The crystal blue waters are home to abundant marine life, including bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, little penguins and weedy sea dragons.
October is a great time to enjoy the displays put on by the humpback and southern right whales as they migrate along the NSW South Coast with their newly born calves! On their journey back down the coast is the best time to spot the mums and their calves as they come in closer to shore to keep their babies safe from predators. We’ll join Jervis Bay Wild for this adventure and get up close to the resident dolphins frolicking in the marine park. The cruise will take us past the stunning cliffs of Point Perpendicular with many hidden spots along the way.
We will visit the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum known for its collection of maritime artefacts and navigational and surveying instruments. The Museum exhibits a range of nautical equipment, models, photographs, paintings, drawings and objects relating to the history and heritage of the Jervis Bay area. Also on the museum grounds is “The Pond" - Fish Reserve, managed by the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum and the New South Wales Department of Fisheries. It is a tidal enclosure within an estuary which provides a sustainable habitat for species from several habitat zones in Jervis Bay. And the best part is, we can feed the fish! Some of them have lived here for a long time and are huge! There is also an Aboriginal arts and crafts gallery on the grounds which we will visit too.
Jervis Bay Pedal Boat Hire is going to provide us with a morning of fun on the water. We will play, race and splash the 4 seat pedal boats in the lovely quiet waters of St Georges Basin. If you are not able to paddle in the boat, that’s fine! You still get to come along and can just kick back and enjoy the ride. In the afternoon, after some lunch we’ll take a drive to the heritage-listed ruins of Cape St George Lighthouse for breathtaking panoramas.
